Underneath Bandit’s graphical interface are seamless high capacity, high precision and high speed data retrieval and graphical parsing engines. Bandit’s speed is derived from a proprietary single pass daemon that computes moving averages, volatility, plot points and sigma spreads through a single read write cycle.
Below are full sized snags of Bandit’s main and multi chart interface. The upper left panel of Bandit’s main form provides static information. Metrics are color coded to their corresponding chart signals. Hovering the mouse, for example, over the dark blue "Close" value will raise a tool tip indicating that close’s percent off the low of the date range requested. The information above the detail chart presents data points associated with the current point(s) selected on the charts.
Below the main interface’s snag is the Bandit’s Multi Chart. The "Close" for the current chart in the main form can be added to Bandit’s Multi Chart using the "Add Symbol" option available through the "Chart" menu arrow button. Bandit’s Multi Chart offers 3 scales.
Bandit’s interpretation of Bollinger allows for the control of band bias, sigma weighting and moving average against 6 deviations, including exponentially weighted and VIX. The snag below presents Bandit bands at different moving average and sigma weights. The bands may be weighted separate. For example, assigning the lower band a higher weighting will present a lower risk buy signal (buy low). A risk to return strategy would be afforded by attenuating the upper band (sell high).
Depending on the type of deviation used to produce the bands, as well as sigma weightings and SMA, market performance can be calibrated based on variance outside the trading bands, or contained, and calibrated based on the market’s proximity to the bands. The image sets below compare a 21 day close/close deviation to Bandit’s Lumpy VIX bands.
Bandit offers 2 SMA (moving average) signals and controls for the sample period. Default SMA signals are 200 Day and 50 Day.
Bandit also presents VIX performance for the historical range of the symbol being considered. Note the typical VIX spikes when the market moves higher from a local dip.Bandit allows for continuous or staggered historical ranges. The snag below presents the Dow Jones Industrial Average from 1930 through 2010. The chart below is presented as an example of Bandit’s flexibility. It is not recommended to retrieve extreme or deep historical market performance due to system and connection issues. Noting again, Bandits Bands are optimized for a 1 year market.
As indicated previously, Bandit will service staggered histories. Below are charts of the Dow for the first year in office of the last 6 presidents. Notice the DJI Bush I First Year chart shows the lavender VIX signal. The VIX is not available for markets before that term.
